Sudha Murthy was born on August 19, 1950 in Shiggaon in Karnataka. She was raised by her parents and grandparents. Her childhood proved to be the inspiration behind most of her stories. How I taught my Grandmother to Read and Other Stories is her most popular book. She studied Electrical Engineering at the B.V.B. College of Engineering & Technology and passed out with a First Class and a Gold Medal awarded by the Chief Minister of Karnataka. She completed her Masters in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Science.
Sudha Murthy is the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation; she is reputed to be one of the most successful institutional investment managers in the world. She is a known philanthropist.
